THE RABBIT MEAT
In the past, animals were often subjected to, severe famine. One season there was such famine in the animal Kingdom, which led to extreme starvation. Then, Tortoise and the Rabbit used to be best of friends. They were so close that they did everything together. And so, when the famine started killing most of the animals the Rabbit came to the Tortoise and proposed that they should kill and use there children as meals less, they die also. They both had three children a piece.

Rabbit’s child was the first to be killed and divided into two. The Tortoise was given half of the meat to take back home. When Tortoise got home, he further divided the meat into two and kept the other half while he and his children eat the remainder. Tortoise was careful to dish the meat sparingly. Two days after, the Rabbit came back to Tortoise and demanded that Tortoise should kill one of his kids for meal. “I have already done that, here is your share”, the Tortoise replied. The Tortoise brought out the other half of Rabbits meat that he did not it. “Why is it so small”? Asked the Rabbit. “Because you know, my kids are quite small and by the time you take away the shell, there is not much left”. The Tortoise replied.

Not long after, the Rabbit brought another half of his (second) child to Tortoise. “Tortoise, I have killed my second child and here is your share. But, how come your child’s meat tasted exactly like mine”? Maybe because we all eat the same kind of food’”, replied Tortoise. When the Rabbit left, Tortoise divided his share into two and roasted one half while he and his kids ate the other. After two days, Rabbit became hungry again and visited Tortoise. “Let us now kill your second child he offered. “Don’t worry friend, I have already done that here is your share”. Tortoise replied. When the Rabbit saw the meat he complained again that it looked like his child’s meat which he gave to Tortoise. “How can it be, remember that your child’s meat was not roasted and your child’s meat was bigger than this”. Tortoise said in defense.

The Rabbit nodded in agreement. Finally the Rabbit killed his last child and shared the meat with Tortoise which he further divided and presented as his third child. Then when Rabbit finished the last meat he paid Tortoise a surprise visit and, to his amazement he saw the three children of Tortoise. “I thought we ate your kids” Rabbit whispered to Tortoise “Yes we did but, I kept their bones in water so that they could form again”. Tortoise replied. “But why did you not tell me so that my own babies could be reformed. Anyway, thank goodness we still have children to eat. Lets kill one immediately because I am very hungry”, the Rabbit concluded. The Tortoise unleashed a thunderous laughter and said, “we both had three children a piece and in all we have killed six of them.
What will you kill if I kill my child? Moreover, we are living the village today to see my dead mother you can come along so that we can eat her together”. The hungry Rabbit agreed immediately to follow Tortoise and his children. Along the way the Tortoise and his children killed the Rabbit who was advised to hide inside a sack and used him as food for a long period of time.

I remember this tale..

However, my take now is. What is the moral of the story?

I hate to break it to you guys.. but It seems to me that the underlying meaning of this story is not good. It seems to promote deceit, lies, and untrustworthyness (if thats a word)
