I think it is "bad belle" (envy) Otherwise woe betides a Liberian to speak unkind words about Nigeria. When they had their civil war in recent times, Nigeria was one of the few African countries that stepped up to the plate and provided refugee camps and even some people took in some of them in their homes. I for one know an uncle who took in some Liberians in his home during that war period.
That said, Nigeria is still the undisputed African giant and we make no qualms about it. We are a very proud people which might translate to arrogance to the faint of heart.

A lot of them will tell you that they've had bad experiences with Nigerians.

Others, will base their sentiments on the misinformation from the Western media.

An Asian colleague of mine just came back from a conference in West Africa and had asked me that same question and i told her the honest truth;
"i honesty don't know".

It's just like asking why the average continental European doesn't like the British and the Americans, or why most of the Caribbeans don't like the Jamaicans...

Though, there might be some "bad belle" as Yago said, a lot of the countries mentioned have often at times been seen by their neighbours as being very arrogant.

In the case of Nigeria, though, those that are educated and are bold enough to articulate the problems they have with us have said that we have wasted a lot of the opportunities and resources that we've had that equips us to lead the rest of black Africa out of chaos and in the right direction...

Great question!

Many 'other' Africans actually have a grudging respect for Nigerians. However, I understand why other Africans may dislike Nigerians;

Reasons;

1. Nigerians are very enterprising, not willing to settle for the menial jobs for too long. They are able to create wealth in very short order.
2. Nigerians are audacious, they will ask for more out of their employers.
3. They are extremely hard working. .... I can go on, but at the same time...

Nigerians are also obnoxious, loud, impatient, disrespectful, and a few have been known to carry out sensational fraud.

Combination of all these make Nigerians an interesting bunch! and you can easily see why 'other' Africans may dislike us.

Well, what I do know is that nobody has the time or energy to waste disliking weaklings or non-entities. For instance, many countries may dislike the U.S., but the last time I checked, U.S. is still the most powerful country on earth.

Conversely, no one gives a toss about Puerto Rico (which is even administered by the US, though it is supposed to be a country of its own), because it is completely insignificant in the over all scheme of things.

Nigerians may be disliked by some fellow Africans precisely because we are in a superior position, relative to them.

Na so life be.

Well... I see you're taking no prisoners with your response. Hmm... could this be a manifestation of why Nigerians are disliked?
